3 Day: Vestibular Rehabilitation

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This three-day certification workshop presents rehabilitation and therapy protocols to manage identifiable vestibular and balance system disorders, including cortical and labyrinthine concussion. The content is evidence-based to ensure therapists and clinicians produce excellent outcomes.

Topics include:

Vestibular anatomy and physiology
Sensory integration of equilibrium
Disorders affecting vestibular function: otologic and non-otologic conditions
Cortical and labyrinthine concussion differentiation
Interactive concussion management strategies and therapies
Neurophysiology of central compensation
Patient-centered vestibular rehabilitation protocols: adaptation, habituation, and substitution
Psychogenic factors affecting vestibular rehabilitation outcomes
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo diagnosis & treatment - canalith repositioning maneuvers with manual training for all forms and variants

Attendees will receive Certification in Vestibular Rehabilitation through the American Institute of Balance, free 1-year access to AIB research library, and a comprehensive vestibular rehabilitation workbook with vestibular exercises, evaluation materials, and much more
 

OBJECTIVES of SEMINAR

Differentiate vestibular test abnormalities that identify patients who are appropriate candidates for therapy
Use diagnosis based strategies for designing and implementing therapy
Apply specific therapy protocols within individualized programs for patients
Initiate and implement a comprehensive vestibular rehabilitation program
Develop return-to-play decisions based on your assessment and management of concussion patients.
 

PRESENTER'S BIO

RICHARD GANS, PHD

Richard Gans, PhD, is the founder and executive director of The American Institute of Balance, the leading diagnostic, treatment and educational research center in vestibular and equilibrium sciences. For over 20 years, Dr. Gans has been a leader in the development of vestibular evaluation and rehabilitation techniques, including tests of oscillopsia and postural stability as well as BPPV treatment. Since earning his PhD from The Ohio State University in Auditory-Vestibular Physiology, he has presented or published over 150 programs and papers worldwide in the area of equilibrium disorders, and he is the author of 8 textbook chapters and texts spanning diagnostic vestibular testing, vestibular rehabilitation, BPPV treatments, and pediatric vestibular evaluation. Thieme Medical Publishers will publish his upcoming textbook, Evaluation and Management of Balance Disorders in Children and Adults. His most current research is in the areas of pediatrics, migraine, and psychiatric aspects of dizziness. Dr. Gans served as the President of the American Academy of Audiology (2004-2005) and continues to serve as an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University and the University of South Florida.
