Alcoholism and drug abuse or dependence (addictive disorders) affect over 16% of adults in the United States. These disorders are associated with a broad range of medical, psychological, family, social, occupational, legal, financial, and spiritual problems. This seminar aims to increase your knowledge and skills in assessing and treating common addictive disorders.
In the past decade, considerable research has been sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to identify effective treatments for addictive disorders. A number of empirically based psychosocial and pharmacotherapy approaches are now available for both alcoholism and drug dependence. This workshop will provide an introduction and overview of select empirically based treatments.
