This seminar is designed for human resource and payroll professionals, benefits managers, business owners and managers, accountants, controllers and attorneys.
Recently promulgated regulations under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 will potentially impact, on some level, almost all employers. It is important for employers maintaining group health plans for their employees, as well as employers engaged in or doing business with the health care industry, to be generally familiar with this legislation and aware of their obligations and potential for liability exposure thereunder.
It is also important for employers maintaining group health plans for their employees to be familiar with their obligations both under federal law (i.e., COBRA) and New Jersey state law to make health care continuation coverage available for their employees, former employees, and other individuals covered under their group health plans. While COBRA has been in effect since 1986, many employers, both large and small, remain unfamiliar with the legislation and the obligations it imposes on them.
The seminar will provide attendees with a working knowledge of these important pieces of legislation and will also provide them with the information needed to develop and maintain an appropriate compliance program.
