Training Course Syllabus:

PROGRAM DETAILS

Progressive rehabilitation programs are necessary to meet patients' goals in spite of the pressures brought on by health care reform. Patient's education about their functional status requires a comprehensive approach to their treatment plan. A complete return to a patient's rehabilitation potential requires a specific focus on timely designed protocols to enhance their recovery. A limited number of visits and/or limited time frames during which to complete a rehabilitation program requires innovation and use of all available sources.

Because of the limitation of some third party payers, it is vital to design a program based on purposeful clinic visits. Functional outcomes are based on the understanding of a progressive coordinated rehabilitation program. Goals and expectations should be established for each phase of the rehab process. This course covers functional approaches to rehabilitation of the kinetic chains. Course participants will explore protocols for upper and lower extremity pathology with "hands-on" lab sessions so participants return to their rehabilitation settings with applicable concepts and skills. Clinicians come away excited about trying new techniques and their orthopedic rehab patients will demonstrate a more positive attitude about their recovery.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Understand the concept of mobility, recruitment and tri-planar stabilization
  • Learn application of progressive kinetic chain exercises
  • Describe the protective rehab component of the kinetic chains
  • Participation in hands-on mobility and stabilization exercises
  • Understand how to use selective functional exercise for your orthopedic patient
  • Describe what the protective rehab component of the kinetic chains are
  • How to assess lower kinetic functional status
  • Enhance the understanding of upper kinetic chain recruitment
  • Expand your hands-on mobility skills

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Terry Trundle, PTA, ATC, LAT, offers educational programs on Functional Rehabilitation focusing on the upper and lower kinetic chain. He recently was one of the first recipients of the Recognition of Advanced Proficiency Award for the Physical Therapist Assistant in Musculoskeletal Physical Therapy by the American Physical Therapy Association. The concepts presented by Mr. Trundle are beneficial in multiple settings as he emphasizes practical approaches to functional exercise.
