Training Course Syllabus:

Low back pain is an epidemic in America today. Injuries related to the low back saturate the medical field, limit recreational activities, contribute to missed worker days and ultimately lead to a decreased quality of life. While there are many treatment options for those patients with low back pain, many can be viewed as passive. Treatments such as modalities, manipulation and massage have demonstrated good short-term relief of symptoms. However, long-term implications are unclear.

Participants of this seminar will be introduced to the concept of core stabilization and muscular control. This approach to the treatment of low back pain is evidence-based and supported by current research in professional literature. Also, by empowering the patient with the knowledge and ability to treat their own pain, improved long-term results can be achieved. Following review of scientific principals, a hands-on lab will be given. Lab will include physical assessment of instability and specific techniques to assist the patient in obtaining correct contractions. Participants will practice teaching and performing the techniques for practical implementation in the clinic. Specific protocols will be given in detailed phases and the phases will build on each other leading to maximum stabilization. Upon conclusion of this seminar, the participant will not only have a sound scientific understanding of specific lumbar stabilization exercise, but will have the tools to apply it in the clinic. Participants will be able to assure referral sources and patients that this approach is the best science has to offer.
