Syllabus:
Overview of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
Why Should you Attend
The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act was established by the U.S. Government in the late 1970´s as a means to review and control influence and bribery by U.S. and foreign companies in gaining business. In particular, there was emphasis on paying monies to influence foreign government employees to gain business. The types of influence include bribes, special favors, payment of trips, and other payments to influence foreign sales. The regulations are very specific as to what constitutes a payment to a foreign official and who a foreign official is. With increased bribery issues globally, the FCPA is being enforced to a greater degree with heavy penalties for violators. If your company deals with foreign vendors or government agencies you have to know the FCPA rules, and put internal controls in place to ensure proper oversight of your employees.
