Training Course Syllabus:

Assessments and Exercise Programming for Improving Stability, Mobility, Function and Power Seminar by Jeannie Patton

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Pyramid for Conditioning

Sometimes we give our patients and clients activities that they are not ready for. They are only as strong as their weakest link. We have to find their last point of success, not their first point of failure. The pyramid for conditioning is first establishing stability, which is described as the ability to maintain posture and balance with movement. Second is to establish mobility, which is described as active range of motion for functional movement. Third is to perform the multi-joint functional movements that consist of squatting, lifting, pushing, pulling, locomotion skills and rotation. Fourth is to perform sports-specific skills, which may include power, agility and plyometrics.

This one-day seminar will offer a number of assessments for stability, mobility, functional movement and sports/power. After each section, the class will be offered the chance to participate in exercises to improve stability, mobility, function and power. This is a very interactive class, so dress comfortably with loose clothing and bring either a towel or mat to class.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

•Learn techniques to assess stability and participate in exercises to improve stability
•Learn methods for assessing power for younger as well as older adults and participate in exercise to improve power
•Describe a combination of functional and fitness assessments to establish a current level of function and participate in exercises to improve function
•Perform range of motion assessments to establish mobility and perform active self-stretches to improve mobility
•Understand the progression chain, stability before mobility, functional movements and sports-specific movements, which may include power and agility
•Be able to perform one assessment in each category: stability, mobility, functional movement and sports/power
•List the conditioning stages: Muscle Activation and Isolation, Spinal Stabilization, Whole Body Stabilization, Core Conditioning, Core Power
•Evaluate various postural deviations and identify muscles that need to be stretched as well as muscles that need to be strengthened
•Be able to perform a number of exercises to improve stability, stretches to improve mobility, exercises to improve function, and activities to improve sports performance
•List the proper progression chain for introducing a squat, lunge and step-up for a new patient or client

What You Should Bring: This is a very interactive class, so dress comfortably with loose clothing and bring either a towel or mat to class.
