PROGRAM DETAILS

Maximize Reimbursement and Compliance in One of the Toughest Fields to Code

Advancements in the field of interventional radiology (IR) and the movement of modern medicine toward less invasive procedures have led to an increased demand for IR services. While it's an exciting time for this field, it is also complicated by billing complexities that can become obstacles for those who employ these innovative techniques. In fact, IR is one of the most difficult services to code in all of health care. In most cases, IR staff must code for both the procedure and the imaging services, and must be aware of the different guidelines for each part of the service.

This comprehensive seminar provides detailed instructions and specific examples to help attendees make sense of the complex guidelines of IR coding. With more than 30 years of coding and billing experience, this instructor is uniquely qualified to guide attendees of all experience levels through the ins and outs of billing IR procedures to maximize reimbursement while ensuring compliance. The course will cover a wide range of pertinent, helpful topics, including numerous specific IR codes, correct modifier usage, medical necessity requirements, clinical documentation essentials and much more.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Discover how to prevent denials and delays by using modifiers properly and recognizing what is not separately billable
• Identify the orders of vascular families and corresponding codes
• Practice coding for technical and professional components appropriately
• Apply correct steps to coding for interventional radiology procedures and imaging services
• Summarize and apply the guidelines and rules of IR coding for accuracy and compliance
• Recognize which services are bundled and which can be billed separately
• Assess whether documentation is sufficient or in need of clarification and detail for reimbursement
• Determine when and how to use modifiers appropriately
• List the steps for coding vascular catheterization procedures and imaging
• Practice accurately coding IR procedures performed in various systems of the body
