Effective Strategies for Working with Adoptive and Foster Children and Adolescents Training Seminar

PROGRAM DETAILS

DESCRIPTION:

Moving Beyond Cognitive Therapy and Behavior Modification Approaches

Research indicates 87% of children who demonstrate the most disruptive and disturbing behaviors have experienced trauma. Many of these children can be found in the adoptive and foster care systems. In fact, recent estimates show that 50-80% of children in foster care exhibit emotional and/or behavioral problems. This is not surprising considering that a large percentage of the children in foster care are survivors of abuse or neglect. As behavioral health and educational professionals working with these child victims, we strive to help them attain a happier, healthier life. However, their behaviors and underlying issues can often make assimilation into new families, schools and the foster system in general, very difficult. Moreover, while being adopted or in foster care involves necessary and even positive moves for the child, such disruptions in environment can sometimes result in further mental health concerns.

This course offers specific, step-by-step strategies and interventions to working effectively with adoptive and foster children and their sometimes troublesome behaviors. Learn vital steps to reaching these children and helping them overcome challenges through interventions that go beyond cognitive therapy and behavior modification approaches. The effective techniques and thought processes covered in this course will guide you in helping families and children reach the roots of healing to experience love and peace in their families.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Confront severe behavior with more confidence and success
• Assist children and their families in overcoming attachment and bonding challenges
• Establish powerful, nonverbal strategies that promote neurophysiologic development, learning, trust and attachment
• Express and demonstrate specific parenting and therapy techniques that foster love and openness to help children heal
• Utilize physiology to promote connection, learning and healing
• Discover strategies for assisting children in overcoming classroom difficulties
• Develop integration tools that help traumatized children heal
• Explore both sides of the therapeutic and educational continuum to create positive outcomes
• Effectively assess, address, and achieve results in working with foster and adoptive children in a shorter time frame
