Gerontechnology: Assistive Technology That Will Change Patient Care by Marnie Renda

PROGRAM DETAILS

The Future of Patient Care

Gerontechnology is defined as the technology designed for elders to enable them to function at the highest possible level. Technology is playing a more significant role in our lives and the lives of our patients. With each day, new technology is being developed and becoming available in the market that will revolutionize how we conduct our treatment. As healthcare practitioners, it is essential that we are aware of the new technology and can identify those products that will help create better outcomes for our patients.

This course is designed to educate healthcare practitioners about the new and emerging technologies impacting older Americans. The course will focus on technologies that are impacting the most costly aspects of healthcare including management of chronic illness, fall management, and limited treatment options of patients in rural areas. We will explore which of these is most effective and likely to be used in the different healthcare settings. On-line resources to keep practitioners up-to-date on technology and the legislation affecting the use of technology in patient care will be explored. Finally, product demonstrations will be included to provide participants a first hand exposure to these new products and the potential use in various healthcare settings.
