PROGRAM DETAILS

Treating the Foot/Ankle with the Latest Procedures and Therapy

The management of patients with foot/ankle dysfunction often challenges the most experienced health care provider. Today, the middle aged and baby boomers are asking more of their bodies, especially the foot and ankle. This, in turn, is asking more of their health care providers to identify sources of dysfunction. Indicating the most appropriate and efficient examination and treatment enhances quality and effective patient care.

This seminar includes the latest biomechanics of the foot and ankle, patho-mechanics of the foot and ankle, and the latest surgical procedures and treatment of the foot and ankle. The objectives have been designed to fill the gap between standard evidence approaches to rehabilitation and clinical management of the foot and ankle. All practitioners seeking to improve patient care outcomes through the examination and evaluation of patients with foot and ankle dysfunction will benefit from attending this seminar.

 

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Learn new techniques to treat foot/ankle dysfunctions with solid evidence
• Communicate with physicians in a professional manner regarding symptoms and for requesting further medical tests
• Interpret the most recent findings on how to diagnose Achilles tendinopathy
• Develop an effective rehabilitation program by having an understanding of efficient testing procedures to eliminate specific foot/ankle dysfunctions
• Gain an increased understanding of foot/ankle dysfunctions
• Develop a strategy for gait analysis: normal vs. abnormal
• Discuss the biomechanics of the foot and ankle
• Recognize and identify radiographic images of the foot/ankle pathology
• Analyze and perform specific tests to help influence foot inserts/orthotics for the foot and ankle
• Identify anatomical landmarks of the foot and ankle complex
• Identify positive test results when performing specific foot/ankle examination
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the amount of force and direction of movement utilized when performing each test
• Implement an algorithm method testing of foot/ankle ligaments
• Examine radiographic studies related to foot/ankle pathology

PRESENTER'S BIO

JIM L. KELLER, PT, PhD, CDE, CMT, CWCE, CRA, is a licensed Physical Therapist with over 44 years of experience in biomechanic and orthopedic assessment and intervention. He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Physical Education from Arkansas State University in 1964 and then graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in Physical Therapy in 1967. Dr. Keller spent the next 22 years in the United States Air Force, where he directed foot and ankle clinics for orthotics and prosthetics. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, he received a Fellowship in Sports Medicine from the American Sports Medicine Institute. He then went on to earn his doctorate degree in health and nutrition from LaSalle University in 1999. Dr. Keller has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 1965. He has served on the boards of the state and district chapters of the APTA. Dr. Keller has given over 300 seminars at the state and national level and has authored several journals in the medical digest of the USAF, and orthopedic section APTA. He presently has a consulting practice related to the foot/ankle. His experience helps makes him a very knowledgeable and skilled presenter.
