Effective Communication Strategies to Generate Productive Outcomes with Children and Adults Seminar

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Generating Positive Results in Practice with Children and Adults with Special Needs and/or Typical Behaviors

Sensory processing equals communication…communication inside and outside of the body. It is the essential element necessary to understanding the world. If there is a deficit in the ability to make sense of our surroundings it will follow that there will be difficulty communicating needs and desires with and to others. The foundation for learning is based in the ability to process information provided by vision, vestibular, somatosensory, and visual-perceptual skills which provide a framework on which to build all communication. Neurolinguistics incorporates the analysis of internal and external communication (linguistics) and the effects on the way the brain operates (neurology).

Exploring key basic elements of neurolinguistics will assist in using skills that will facilitate powerful communication. Discussing two key aspects of transactional analysis—active listening and the concept of identifying the "point of view" in communication—might help to bring a greater understanding when using voice tonality and body language which contribute more than words to any interaction. When studied together and merged with Ms. Schneider's dynamic style, the information in this innovative seminar can provide immediate and effective changes in the way you are able to consciously enhance the level of power you already possess. This seminar will concentrate on communication strategies for special needs as well as typical children and adults.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Establish a foundation for all communication based in awareness of sensory processing
• Discuss aspects of transactional analysis pertinent to the goal of creating effective communication strategies
• Brainstorm using your own case studies to demonstrate how to apply skills
• Explore the foundation for learning in visual, vestibular, somatosensory, and visual-perceptual systems
• Discuss trade vocabulary used by therapists practicing sensory integration
• Analyze the "Circle of Power"—using systematic understanding to change behavior
• Investigate basic elements of neurolinguistics that pertain to our goal of creating powerful communication skills
• Explore two aspects of transactional analysis that can have a direct and immediate effect on the outcome of communication
• Emphasize the importance of goal setting and discuss an action plan to motivate others to set goals
• Identify strategies that might be useful with children/adults with special needs to facilitate interaction with verbal and non-verbal communication
• Discover subliminal communication that may affect behavior
• Create positive outcomes by using yourself as a catalyst for change via therapeutic use of self and response to intervention

What You Should Bring: If you would like to participate in the experiential with kinesthetic testing please bring a small amount of food or an object that you like very much and think is good for you (i.e. something in your favorite color such as a scarf or tie; a fidget, swatch of material, or a piece of paper in your favorite color).
