Concussion Management and Successful
Awareness and the importance of concussion management has increased greatly over
the past several years. Research has led to a better understanding of actual
concussion injury along with how and why they occur. The difficult component of
concussion management is the successful implementation of an interactive
concussion policy and Concussion Management Team (CMT). A meaningful concussion
policy is more than adopting a piece of paper. There are plenty of
model-concussion policies available as references. The real challenge is moving
from written policy to program-wide buy-in to allow the CMT to help protect the
immediate and future heath of athletes. A well-developed concussion management
program is paramount to prevention and quality of care delivered to athletes on
and off the field.
This seminar will provide the tools and information needed to return to
professional settings, whether in clinical practice, schools, or other
organizations, to implement a CMT and concussion policy successfully. The
director will walk participants through the development of a model concussion
policy. Along the way, we take time to address specific issues participants are
experiencing. This course will provide practical solutions that result in
site-specific strategies and challenges for successfully implementing concussion
management and policy.
