PROGRAM DETAILS

Communicating and Processing Difficult Emotions through the Art Process

Art therapy is where the worlds of art and psychology meet. Every creative endeavor produces a type of self-portrait that can be interpreted to provide further insight and aid in personal growth. By making and interpreting art, individuals and therapists can reach beyond censored and conscious feelings to a deeper understanding of personality, fears, obsessions, and motivations. Art therapy is especially effective when working with those who seek greater motivation and focus. Drawing, painting, sculpture, or collage provides a new language in which to reframe our thoughts and feelings. This new language encourages us to tell a different story, and imagine new and unique outcomes.

Discover Art Therapy skills to increase your clients' happiness, health, and motivation as well as your own. Art Therapy techniques will be demonstrated, and you will complete therapeutic art projects based on positive thinking, neuro-psychology, and rational psychotherapy. We will analyze research and case studies that illustrate the effectiveness of Art Therapy and the creative process to positively change lives. You will leave with at least two dozen concrete skills and interventions to add to your therapeutic toolbox.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Discuss new methods of channeling our emotional energy to feel happier and healthier
• Identify effective Art Therapy techniques to enhance personal development for ourselves and our Clients
• Explore neuroscience research findings regarding connections between the creative process and neurological changes
• Outline the skills needed to utilize creative Art Therapy techniques to experience the power of change
• Implement specific art interventions based in positive thinking, neuro-psychology, and rational psychotherapy
• Discuss how neurology changes with the creative process and apply concepts through case study
• Implement at least eight different Art Therapy projects specifically designed to increase happiness, health, and productivity
• Identify the obstacles that inhibit personal success such as fear, anxiety, and illness
• Complete Art Therapy tasks to generate healing and exhilaration
• Outline how the creative process can improve communication and relationships
• Discover how to use technology Apps and software such as a "paintbrush" as a new medium
