Training Course Syllabus:

Dimensional Massage for Tension Headaches - Massage Therapy / Healthcare Seminar

Seminar Description:

Any of our clients have experienced tension headaches from soft tissue origins. The American College of Physicians estimates 45 million Americans suffer from chronic headaches. The pain may only last for a few hours, but sometimes it can remain for weeks. Yet many are unaware of the relief massage can bring, especially when the therapy brings awareness to specific headache triggers and soft tissue dysfunctions.

Dimensional Massage Therapy protocol and techniques, developed by author, instructor, and massage therapist Nancy Dail, can help bring your clients relief through a series of deep tissue strokes targeting specific muscles with a working method that focuses on the individual structure of the patient. Backed by the latest research in headache treatment and Ms. Dail's textbook, Kinesiology for Manual Therapies, this one-day seminar provides participants with both clinical and non-clinical approaches to decrease pain frequency. This course is for all therapists interested in learning techniques for the head, neck, and shoulders to help distance headache episodes, support posture, and relieve soft tissue discomfort.

What You will Learn in Dimensional Massage for Tension Headaches:

  • Discuss the different categories of headaches according to International Headache Society Classifications and appropriate clinical and non-clinical solutions
  • Examine current research on headache relief, including Dr. Tiffany Field's Touch Therapy and other recent case studies and results
  • Demonstrate, under supervision, Dimensional Massage Therapy techniques for the head, neck, and shoulders that can help distance headache attacks, support posture, and provide soft tissue comfort
  • Discover how to be a "good detective" to determine your client's sleeping habits, daily posture, repetitive holding patterns, and other factors that can trigger headaches
  • Analyze the idiosyncrasies of specific muscle patterns of the head, neck, and shoulders and their trigger points and pain patterns
  • Identify your first course of treatment and the pre- and post-treatment protocols for positions, comfort level, and your client's environment
  • Learn multiple techniques under supervised lab sessions for relieving tension headaches, including a short Seated Massage Session that can be used on a client in a regular chair

What You Should Bring

Please come dressed in loose fitting or appropriate clothing for the lab portion of the program and bring two sheets, a hand towel, and massage oil/lubricant. Attendees will need to bring a massage table and a bolster (if possible).
