Training Course Syllabus:

Functional Assessment, Rehab, and Taping of Musculoskeletal Disorders Webinar

Course Description

Since the beginning of the profession, therapists have been assessing patients using statically based, standard orthopaedic tests. But recently, there is a growing focus on functional tests and assessments in order to accurate identify the functional deficits of each patient, and thus the treatment needed to resolve those deficits. Dr. Janda said that “The test is the exercise and the exercise is the test”. In light of Dr. Janda’s work, the relationship between chronic musculoskeletal conditions and Upper and Lower Crossed Syndromes will be described. Ultimately though, these conditions should be treated with functional rehab and functional, proprioceptive taping. The principles of these treatments will be covered.

Objectives

1. The participant will identify the relationship between chronic musculoskeletal conditions and central nervous system disorders.

2. Identify the tonic muscles in upper crossed and lower crossed syndrome as described by Dr. Janda.

3. Identify the phasic muscles in upper crossed and lower crossed syndrome as described by Dr. Janda.

4. List 4 cervical spine functional assessments.

5. List 4 lumbar spine functional assessments.

Outline

8:00 Chronic Musculoskeletal Conditions and Janda Muscle Imbalance Syndromes – Defined

8:20 Cervical Spine Functional Assessments

8:45 Lumbar Spine Functional Assessments
