PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

What Factors Make Us Susceptible to Victimization?
In the eyes of the law, undue influence is a transaction that allows a dominant party to impose their will upon a person who is weak or vulnerable without adequate attention to the consequence of the action. Nearly all of us have encountered clients who have been persuaded to do something they really didn't want to do, were involved with a group or organization whose behavior contradicted their common sense, partnered in an abusive relationship, or were even cheated in a swindle.

This seminar provides an invaluable inside look into what victimized clients have been through, and evidence-based methods on how to identify those who will become victims. Clinicians attending this seminar will be psychologically armed to protect clients from being targeted and becoming victims. Participants explore concepts such as magical thinking and operant conditioning, and examine how depression, stress, and self-esteem shape a victim. Seminar attendees leave with an understanding of undue influence, the ability to identify vulnerability characteristics, and the methods to assist their clients in finding their own power through informed decision making.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Define undue influence and how to recognize it
• Identify at least five personal characteristics that make a person vulnerable to becoming a victim of undue influence
• Distinguish the characteristics of psychopathy
• Recognize the situational vulnerabilities of group dynamics
• Incorporate into practice how to advise victims of undue influence
