Facilitating Successful Outcomes through Seating & Positioning  -  Physical Therapy / Rehabilitation Training Seminar

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Seeing the "Big Picture" in Long-Term Care
As resources for the elderly and disabled become more scarce and difficult to acquire in skilled nursing and residential settings, the prevalence and severity of positioning issues are becoming more challenging to address. Positioning issues contribute to the development of complex problems including development of contractures, pressure ulcers, and overall functional decline. These individuals require periodic skilled services to assess, implement, and monitor their needs as the progression of their disease processes continue to impact mobility, performance in activities of daily living, and overall quality of life.

This 1-day workshop provides you with a greater perspective of long-term care issues, teaches you a multi-faceted approach to skilled interventions, and delivers practical skills that you can apply in all of your clinical settings. Learn seating and positioning assessment and strategies to achieve postural support to prevent the development and progression of deformities. These strategies maximize your patient's potential to attain and maintain the highest functional level and quality of life—throughout all stages of their lives, during all stages of their disease processes.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Identify skilled service needs related to positioning in various settings to generate appropriate referrals and maximize case mix index
• Accurately assess positioning as it relates to function and dysfunction
• Write functional goals and develop and implement effective treatment plans
• Implement multiple treatment modalities to maintain improved postural alignment with challenging patients
• Determine which seating equipment and considerations are most appropriate to use with the individual client
