PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Protect Yourself from the Most Common Causes of Regulatory Board Complaints
Ever find yourself walking on eggshells around risk and liability when you're helping a client through a difficult divorce? You're not alone. Most regulatory board complaints result from providing services to divorcing parents and other high-conflict clients—which is why many clinicians try (with limited success) to avoid them altogether.

This course offers a better solution, showing you how to recognize and neutralize the clinical and ethical red flags that precede most complaints. Pinpoint areas of your practice where you are already vulnerable, such as your informed consent process, and find out what you can do now to immediately reduce your liability. Discover ways to improve your therapeutic documentation so that it protects you and your practice while preserving your client relationship in the event of a misunderstanding. Explore evidence-based strategies for keeping sessions constructive and collaborative with aggressive individuals and high-conflict couples. And if worse comes to worst, learn what to expect and how to reduce the impact if a client files a complaint or lawsuit against you.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Recognize red flags indicating clinical and/or ethical risk for practitioners
• Formulate effective solutions for red flag situations
• Develop and modify consent forms to reduce risk and maximize client understanding
• Compare evidence-based strategies for effectively managing sessions with aggressive or conflicted parties
• Discuss protocols for working with courts and attorneys when clients are engaged in divorce and custody litigation
