Fusing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Therapeutic Storytelling: Overcoming Negative Self-Esteem -  Social Workers Training Seminar

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

How often do you see clients plagued by false, negative beliefs about themselves, or depression that is fueled by critical self-talk? How many clients understand the destructive role of their negative thinking, yet continue to emotionally hold on to dysfunctional schema? Help your clients see that their negative past experiences impacted them, but don't define them. Combine Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with therapeutic storytelling to help clients overcome problems created by negative life experiences. Dr. Terry Ledford outlines the principles of story development, demonstrates the integration of cognitive behavioral techniques and storytelling, and shares his most effective clinical stories. Develop therapeutic stories to help your clients accept the inaccuracy and destructive power of their negative self-beliefs and replace them with healthy, positive schema.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Articulate the process of event-triggered schema development
• Discuss the impact of self-esteem wounds or negative self-schema
• Integrate CBT, Schema Therapy, and Strategic Family Therapy into your practice
• Recognize and describe the five "Belief Keepers" that serve to maintain schema
• Discover effective therapeutic metaphors illustrating the cognitive processes of schema development
• Develop new therapeutic stories as a treatment technique for current clients
• Analyze the evidence-based research behind therapeutic metaphors

Dr. Ledford is highly professional and well organized. The material is easy to understand and flows in a natural format. Dr. Ledford has a good sense of humor, engages the participants, and keeps the interest of the audience. I find it extraordinarily helpful and applicable to everyone regardless of their current issues.
Bobbie Shannon, MA, LPC

While Dr. Ledford's presentation was professionally excellent, his ability to communicate relationally helped to create an excellent learning environment. The information provided was clinically relevant and easy to utilize in my psychotherapy sessions.
John Miracle, MS, LPC

Dr. Ledford's self-esteem workshop intertwines cognitive and self-help approaches that allows the participants to begin to heal their own wounded egos. Dr. Ledford is able to use anecdotes that everyone can relate to. A very positive experience for professionals and lay persons alike.
