Gerontology and Rehabilitation: Creating the Optimal Experience for Older Clients in Today’s World  -  Occupational and Physical Therapists Training Seminar

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Cover the continuum of geriatric rehabilitation and gain fresh and exciting insight into the latest information and clinical applications for treating this emerging population. Join Susan Blair, one of only two OTs in the country who has been dually credited by the AOTA Board in physical rehabilitation and gerontology, as she presents a unique approach to creating an optimal therapeutic environment in today's geriatric rehabilitation setting. Help "boomers" return to the active lifestyle they wish to have by properly assessing co-morbidities and incorporating patient-centered goals and interventions. At the same time, create a supportive environment for geriatric patients by dismantling bias and ageism in rehab settings. This course is a must for all rehab professionals who want to enhance their skills of geriatric rehabilitation.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

• Identify current trends in aging populations statistics, lifestyle choices, client goals, and utilization of rehabilitation services for older people
• Observe bias and ageism in the rehab setting and gain insight on how to create a supportive environment
• Examine various assessment tools applicable to geriatric populations
• Review valid and reliable outcome measures
• Apply educational tools to specific diagnostic co-morbidities for geriatric client-centered learning
• Utilize successful therapeutic interventions to provide geriatric patients with meaningful and purposeful activities which are age and gender appropriate
