A New Zealand Approach to the Lumbo-Pelvic-Hip Complex: Evidence-Based Assessment and Manual Therapy Treatment -  Physical Therapy Training Seminar

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Lumbar spine. Pelvis. Hip. These three function as a unit. Dysfunction in one of these cannot be effectively addressed without determining how the other two regions influence it. Get the tools to manage the most commonly seen lumbar spine, pelvis, and hip dysfunctions in outpatient settings in this hands-on seminar. Gavin Hamer, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, Dip. MT, uses the most current evidence and treatment– based classification (known as TBC) to bring together the proven rationales and techniques from New Zealand and combines them with what is known in the United States. In this hands-on seminar, Dr. Hamer shows you how to incorporate manual therapy in the clinical setting immediately.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

•List current evidence– based practice to address low back, sacroiliac, and hip joint pain
•Review the treatment– based classification systems and defend their implementation against a more traditional diagnostic model
•Practice a comprehensive subjective system of evaluation
•Demonstrate functional objective examination to ensure treatment is safe and effective
•Apply lateral shift correction in standing and prone positions to reduce pain in the lumbo– pelvic– hip complex
•Incorporate movement position and mobilization in your treatment plan with lumbar spinal stenosis to increase range of motion
•Implement current evidence to treat Gluteus medius tendinopathy
•Apply a clinical and evidence-based manual therapy approach to the lumbo– pelvic– hip complex

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING
Wear comfortable clothing so the hip can be treated and the lumbar spine can be seen.

PRESENTER'S BIO

GAVIN HAMER, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, Dip. MT, is a licensed physical therapist who has worked in a variety of settings for the past 30 years working in both private practice in Canada and New Zealand and directing orthopedic clinics in the United States. This has given him extensive experience working with various patient populations. Dr. Hamer is a graduate from Otago School of Physiotherapy in Dunedin, New Zealand with a Diploma of Manipulative Therapy. Some of the noted faculty were/are pioneers of manual therapy: Robin McKenzie, Brain Mulligan, Mark Laslett, and Duncan Reid. After moving to the United States, he completed his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Des Moines University–Osteopathic Medical Center and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy.

Dr. Hamer has developed a system of assessment and treatment that is safe, effective, and evidence–based. In his unique and eclectic approach — which ranges from McKenzie rationale to Maitland mobilization, muscle energy, and additional techniques he has developed — the clinician's size and strength are less of a factor than some traditional methods, making the techniques he teaches more practical to all therapists. He has written two books on syndrome-based management of the lumbar spine and pelvis. Since 1995, Dr. Hamer has taught over 350 manual therapy courses, sharing the most up-to-date resources and techniques to other clinicians.

TESTIMONIALS:

"By far the best course I have been to in my career."  Joanne, MPT

"Hands– on techniques are refreshing and different."  Kristin, DPT
