FMT Special Populations Taping Certification: Taping Movements, Not Muscles

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Special Populations Taping is part of the Functional Movement Techniques (FMT) kinesiology taping certification series led by industry leading experts in movement assessment and therapy. Discover the concept of movement therapy and enhancement via functional taping methods with populations who require special circumstances, including geriatric, pediatric, and pregnant patient populations. Explore how RockTapeRx, the new, gentle kinesiology tape from the makers of RockTape, expands kinesiology taping applications to a wider group of patients. Review current literature supporting the theory of kinesiology taping for the purposes of rehabilitation, edema/swelling management, neuropathic pain, scar, and postural management. This course is intended for practitioners and therapists with all levels of experience with taping.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

•Evaluate the physiological effects of kinesiology taping

•Integrate the concept of a longitudinal muscle chain approach to the elastic therapeutic taping for special populations, including geriatrics, pediatrics, and pregnancy

•Demonstrate functional taping and understand its use for the applications on geriatric, pediatric, and neurological conditions

•Apply taping techniques for hand and wrist conditions including De Quervain's, carpal tunnel, and trigger finger


What to Bring:

••RockTape will provide all supplies needed for the course, including tape, scissors, and movement assessment equipment.

••Please wear comfortable clothing to allow for full range of motion and application of tape.

 

PRESENTER'S BIO

MILICA McDOWELL, MSPT, DPT, ACSM-HFS, has over 15 years of physical therapy experience and specializes in orthopedic care of athletes of all ages. She attended the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Idaho State University to earn her Master's and Doctoral degrees, respectively. Dr. McDowell founded an out-patient physical therapy practice over 10 years ago, started a private durable medical equipment company in 2012, and is a founding partner in a sport biomechanics injury software company. She teaches in the Health and Human Performance department at her undergraduate alma mater, Montana State University-Bozeman. Dr. McDowell has treated athletes from all specialties during her career including professional X-Games, Free-skiing, US Ski Team, NFL, MLB, and NHL players. She has also worked with professional rodeo athletes and professional dance companies. Dr. McDowell is an active textbook reviewer and teaches nationwide professional continuing education seminars.
