Bringing Mental Health Services to the Medical Setting: Skills and Strategies for Integrated Care

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Bridging the Gap Between Behavioral and Medical Health
More than ever, clinicians in healthcare settings are required to work within the context of a medical team–based approach in order to meet the biopsychosocial needs of the patients. Theoretical approaches to care such as the Chronic Care Model, Collaborative Team Approach, and Population–Based Treatment have intensified the need for behavioral health professionals who can assess and diagnose at a pace akin to triage, consult with medical professionals as well as the patient on the best treatment plan, and use evidence–based approaches such as Solution Focused Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to resolve psychological and social problems.

Join Dr. Amir Levine as he shares practical skills for delivering bad news regarding illness or loss, assisting patients with compliance and management of medical needs, building and mobilizing the patient's familial support network, and a multitude of other presenting issues. Use your skills to help your patients and colleagues as team builder, conflict resolution facilitator, wellness advocate, support provider, and educator.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

•Describe the unique clinical skills needed to provide mental health services in medical settings

•Distinguish between providing behavioral interventions in medical settings vs. traditional psychotherapy settings

•Explain how to conduct functional capacity and risk assessments as part of the medical behavioral triage process

•Determine when to intervene as a wellness advocate for colleagues

•Choose appropriate treatment strategies that address the patient's unique mental and medical health needs

PRESENTER'S BIO

AMIR LEVINE, PH.D, LCSW, has more than 15 years of experience working as a clinician, educator and supervisor in health care, mental health and addiction settings.
