Syllabus:
This seminar will benefit human resource and benefit professionals, controllers, CPAs, plan administrators, payroll professionals, consultants, financial planners, trust officers, insurance and investment professionals, business owners and managers, tax managers and attorneys.
Topics to be discussed include:
• Financial Protection Plans
• IRC Section 125 Cafeteria Compensation Plans
• Capital Accumulation Programs
• Indirect Pay Plans

I. Financial Protection Plans
This section will discuss the 14 different financial protection plans as follows: group health and major medical, self-insured stop loss health plan, medical expense reimbursement, dental coverage, prescription drug program, employer sponsored ind. long term disability income, group long term disability income, group short term disability income, basic group life, jumbo or excess group life, accidental death and dismemberment, employee assistance/non-insured medical care, employer-sponsored financial counseling, medical savings accounts.

II. IRC Section 125 Cafeteria Compensation Plans (FSA Plans)
This section will concentrate on describing and implementing the various plans under IRC Section 125. This will include premium only plans, flexible spending accounts, and flexible benefits. The inclusion of the premium only plan under IRC Section 125 will be discussed, and faculty will show you the upside gain (savings in federal, state, FICA, Medicare taxes to the employee and FICA, Medicare taxes to the organization) compared to the downside risk or cost (none).
The seminar leader will discuss the tax differences between the federal tax credit on dependent daycare and the savings offered you on FSA Plans. Discussion will center around the advantages and disadvantages of installing these types of programs. A new discussion on Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRA).

III. Capital Accumulation Programs
This section will deal with the various qualified (tax-deductible, non-discriminatory) and/or non-deductible, but employee discriminatory retirement plans. The discussion will center on when does a company institute a particular type of plan and how. Discussions regarding eligibility, vesting provisions, retirement formulas, etc. will also be covered. The following plans will be covered: non-qualified, pension and profit sharing, employer sponsored tax sheltered annuities, tax-sheltered annuities, impaired risk annuities, IRAs, Simple, SEP Plans, Section 162 Deferred Compensation, private pension, split dollar, 401(k).

IV. Indirect Pay Plans
These plans will include various benefits not ordinarily considered by the employees. They include: no additional cost services, employee discounts, working condition fringe benefits, deminimis fringe benefits, vacation plans, severance plans, dependent daycare assistance, educational assistance, pre-paid legal plans.

V. Discussion Of The Master Case
In applying the material covered in the seminar, we will discuss which of the 35 cases just reviewed could be the most beneficial to the company in the case – and to other businesses you might be working with.
