Our client's comments
Thank you for your interest in our LEAD Institute Program for
High Potential managers. It is an intense, five day leadership development
process designed to ensure good managers become high potential leaders. Our goal
is to help these leaders make their work units more productive and better places
in which to work.
At LEAD the subject matter for the week are the participants
in the class. We provide them with a learning community where they can explore
new ideas, experiment with new behaviors, learn from others in the class and
help others to change. We do everything we can to personalize the learning
experience for each participant and work hard at ensuring their immediate and
LEAD is a fine educational program on organizational change,
leading people, managing systems and personal insight. But, it is much more than
this. It is a process to translate insight into action. LEAD is a planned change
process where high potential managers come to develop change plans they will
implement on-the-job. These developmental plans focus on the following three
spheres of excellence:
Work Unit Transformation:
Participants in LEAD assess the current functioning of their work units and
develop comprehensive change plans to improve its effectiveness and performance.
These plans include culture transformation, strategy, structure, performance
systems, staff and skills and mission.
Using our personalized 360° feedback process, participants assess their
strengths and weaknesses. Using this analysis they develop specific change plans
to both enhance their leadership and managerial effectiveness and to make their
intended work unit transformation a reality.
Everyone in the session is first of all a person. Therefore, participants spend
the entire week understanding how to enhance their personal style and figuring
out how to behave differently so as to have a more positive impact on others.
The LEAD Program for High Potential Managers, as shown in the
figure above, is built on the understanding that total Leadership Effectiveness
is derived from integrating change in the participant’s Work Culture, Personal
Style and his or her Leadership and Management Competencies.
I do appreciate your interest in The LEAD Institute’s Program
for High Potential Managers and hope that we’ll be of service to you in the
future. We have conducted LEAD both as an open enrollment program and as a
customized in-house program for over seven years. Much of what we do in LEAD is
based on our thirty years of global leading and managing change consulting
Benefits & Learnings
Over the years we have had hundreds of managers participate in our open
enrollment and in-house LEAD Institute Program for High Potential Managers. They
consistently rate it as one of the best developmental experiences they have ever
had. Some of the benefits and learnings managers derive from participating in
LEAD are as follows:
- Participants come to understand that in order to bring the
best out in others, they often need to start the change process with
- Participants in LEAD assess the strengths and weaknesses of
their work units’ current cultures.
- Define the work unit’s desired culture and vision for
transformation, create change plans to improve performance and make it a
better place in which to work.
- Using 360° feedback, participants identify their
competencies as leaders and managers, determining what they need to do to
improve how they lead people and manage systems.
- Analyze their personal style and learn how to reduce the
negative impact they have on others.
- Enhance their capacity to function as both effective team
members with their peers and team leaders with their staffs.
- Broaden their experience by interacting with high potential
managers from other companies and industries.
Who Should Attend
Companies send to LEAD their identified high potentials, managers who are on the
succession plan, managers who manage other manages and/or project managers. One
of the driving forces in LEAD is work unit transformation and performance
improvement. Therefore, LEAD is best suited for managers who have responsibility
for a work unit — sales region, plant, department, shift, work group, operation,
project, business, etc. — where they can make change. Our goal is to help them
make their work units more productive and better places in which to work. We
believe that small changes in their behavior can lead to big changes in
LEAD has helped high potentials who are doing well do better. It has also proven
itself to be effective at helping managers improve who have high potential and
who, however, are not doing as well as they could be.
The session begins before the participants arrive at the conference facility
and, with post session follow-up, extends beyond the close of the program week
on Friday. These are some of the features that make LEAD a comprehensive program
- Prior to LEAD, participants and their supervisors are
interviewed to get an understanding of the participants’ needs and goals.
- The LEAD faculty are involved in the program with the
participants for the entire week. The 1:4 faculty/participant ratio enables us
to provide personalized counseling and guidance every day — before, during and
after each class day.
- To extend the personalized nature of LEAD even further,
participants are assigned to teams with two other participants from different
industries. Members in these consulting trios meet a couple of times a day to
share insights, best practices and suggestions for improvement with each
- LEAD uses an assessment and data driven change process. As
the week progresses participants get 360° feedback on their effectiveness as
transformational leaders and transaction managers. The faculty and consulting
trios ensure it is understood an acted upon.
- Nothing can be so meaningful as constructive feedback and
praise from respected peers. As the week comes to a close participants in the
class get face-to-face, constructive improvement feedback from everyone in the
- LEAD does not end after the week long program comes to a
close. The faculty are scheduled to maintain personal contact with
participants and their supervisors to help ensure what was learned and
developed is used on-the-job.

"I thought the most interesting thing was the personal
profile information. The most helpful thing was the 360° feedback. The two
coupled together will be very useful in my personal and work group improvement."
