A Note from the President:
Visionary leadership is “the ability to create and articulate a realistic, credible, attractive vision of the future for an organization or organizational unit, that grows out of and improves upon the present.” -M. Sashkin, “The Visionary Leader”
As business professionals we develop great mission statements, values, goals and even fancy logos, but very few of us develop an attractive “vision.” Visions create possibilities for the organizations future that are inspirational, unique, and offer new innovation; producing organizational distinction.
What skills do visionary leaders exhibit? First, they have the ability to convey the vision to others. Second, they possess the ability to express the vision, not just orally, but through actions and leading by example. Third, the ability to extend the vision both horizontal and vertical.
Effective visionary leaders are said to be charismatic and high in EI. Taras, E what?! By that I mean “Emotional Intelligence”, the possession of five characteristics—self aware, self managed, self motivated, empathy, and social skills. Without EI, a person can have outstanding training, educated, a highly analytical mind, a long-term vision, and an endless supply of terrific ideas, but still not make a great leader.
What is your organizations “vision”? Do you demonstrate EI? Sincerely,
Taras N.K. Raggio, MPA, HHP President & CEO Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner TARAS TECHNIQUES, LLC
