Learning Method: Instructor-led Classroom Learning
Duration: 6.00 Half-Days / 3.00 Full-Days

Lesson 1: Listening for Other Points of View
• Listening and observation skills that sharpen our ability to read people accurately
• The Decision Ladder: A simple but powerful observation tool for quickly linking actions to
corresponding attitudes/emotions
• Goal: To become the kind of empathetic listener that people appreciate, will open up to, see as fair, open-minded, non-reactive, caring, and are more motivated to follow.

Lesson 2: Establishing Conversational Rapport(Respect)
• Responding respectfully to people, regardless of their momentary manner or point of view, in order to defuse tension, open up lines of communication, and build trust.
• Decision Goals: A respectful and professional approach skill that greatly increases a person’s willingness to listen
• Rapport Acknowledgments: 4 skills that prove we are listening, taking people seriously, and trying to understand their point-of-view
• Goal: The ability to prove respect for anybody’s point of view... in a completely honest manner. The ability to dissolve negative views during a leadership/teamwork/customer interaction

Lesson 3: How Leaders Get the Facts: Analytical Probing Skills
• Adding critical questioning skills to human relations skills of lessons 1 and 2
• Clarifying needs, problems and opportunities (diagnostic skills)
• NIQCL: Uncovering Needs, isolating what’s most Important, Quantifying, considering the Consequences, and establishing open-mindedness to Look/Listen to your solution
• Presentation skills using NIQCL
• Goal: The ability to correctly probe and analyze logical needs and the ability to tailor solutions to individual points of view

Lesson 4: How Leaders Position (Align) Their Ideas
• Connecting with people on their level
• Reasoning with people: making sense to others by linking logic to emotion
• Goal: The ability to “follow” and reason with someone else’s point of view. How to position your ideas and solutions factually and emotionally for faster acceptance

Lesson 5: How Leaders Get “Buy-in”, Support and Commitment
• Making yourself easy to follow when negotiating a change in point of view
• The ability to inspire confidence in others
• Goal: The ability to lead (get followers) even in the face of initial resistance. The ability to inspire confidence in others.

Lesson 6: How Leaders Manage Resistance or Reluctance
• Using leadership and communication skills in high risk, high resistance situations
• Goal: Increased confidence and competence
