Training Course Syllabus:

Empowering Your Clients' Grief Counseling by Incorporating Expressive Arts Techniques

PROGRAM DETAILS

Intense, unresolved pain requires a systemic approach. Expressive arts can provide the mental health professional with a unique set of tools to facilitate this type of healing work. Emotional healing requires clients to maintain a long-term commitment to their emotional health even after they have stopped working with a mental health professional. The expressive arts provides clients with the therapeutic tools they need to heal themselves and maintain their health.

In this one day seminar, therapists and educators will discover how to best utilize these art forms to restore their clients and students to a healthy state. Selecting the best art medium for your clients' individual needs will be addressed, as well as tips for encouraging your clients to utilize the expressive arts long-term for personal restoration. Because grief work can be applied in a variety of settings, attendees will discuss the best methods for using these techniques in individual and group settings. Finally, participants will discuss how they can apply these therapeutic techniques to guide them with their own self-care.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Assess how to use expressive arts for the resolution of grief and emotional pain
  • Identify how to use various expressive arts techniques, including music, writing, movement, drawing and art
  • Determine how to select techniques designed specifically for your clients' personal growth
  • Discover how to utilize expressive arts techniques in both individual and group work
  • Develop maintenance programs for your clients' long-term emotional health
  • Examine different types of expressive arts therapies including examples and activities using music, writing, movement, drawing and art
  • Explain why using expressive arts during therapy is so successful
  • Outline how to use expressive art to resolve grief and emotional pain
  • Develop a long-term program of emotional support
  • Discuss the basics of a powerful psychological theory which supports the use of expressive arts in both individual and group work
  • Discover how therapists and educators can use the expressive arts for self-care

What You Should Bring: This day is designed for both didactic and participatory learning, so please come dressed comfortably.
